Analysis of the stability of the exhaust pipe of the water treatment plant of Cap-Sicié

Toulon (France)

Client : Bonna TP

Date of completion : 2022-2023

For an execution study, Globocean has assessed the hydrodynamic forces expected to apply on the exhaust pipeline of the water treatment plant of Cap-Sicié at Toulon once every fifty years on average, for the design of the ballasts in order to ensure its stability.

The following tasks were successively performed :

  • Modelling of the offshore sea states (software WaveWatchIII)

  • Assessment of the extreme waves expected once every fifty years, by direct extreme value analysis (uni-variate EVA software)

  • Propagation of the 50-yr extreme sea-states in the nearshore area (software SWAN)

  • Modelling of the orbital velocities and accelerations (numerical wave flume model IH2VOF)

  • Derivation of extreme drag, inertial, and lift hydrodynamic forces (Morisson formulation), and advice about the ballast weight to consider for the stability of the exhaust pipeline
