Extreme wave height and storm surges for the design of the oil terminal of Djibouti

Djibouti (Republic of Djibouti)

Client : Somagec

Date of completion : 2020

Globocean has performed a metocean study for the assessment of the extreme waves and sea levels, for the design of the new oil terminal of Djibouti.

The following steps were followed for the realization of this study :

  • Definition of extreme synthetic cyclone patterns (wind parametric mode of Holland)

  • Modelling of the offshore cyclonic swell (software WaveWatchIII)

  • Cyclonic swell propagation in the nearshore area up to the location of the oil terminal (software SWAN on an unstructured grid)

  • Currents and sea levels modelling (hydrodynamic model Telemac2D)

  • Synthesis of the extreme cyclonic conditions around the oil terminal

Definition of the study points along the terminal: causeway and jetty
