Preliminary design of a floating photovoltaic solar farm

Updated: Jun 29, 2023

Assessment of wind and wave statistical conditions for the preliminary design of a floating photovoltaic solar farm - Gulf of Lion (FRANCE)

Client : SolarInBlue

Date of completion : 2020

For a feasibility study of installation of floating photovoltaic farms along the Mediterranean coastline, Globocean has defined the wind and wave statistical conditions at each grid point of an unstructured model, and in a second step a more accurate assessment of the wind and wave regimes expected at 2 specific locations identified as potential spots of interest.

The following missions have been realized during this study:

  • Offshore wave modelling in the Gulf of Lion (WaveWatchIII software)

  • Wave propagation in the nearshore area (SWAN software)

  • Validation of the nearshore wave modelling against coastal buoys measurements (Candhis buoy network)

  • Extreme statistical analysis of winds and waves (EVA software)

  • Usual statistics of the main wave regime

  • Production of wind and wave statistical quantiles in grid point

  • Accurate analysis of the wind and wave statistical conditions for 2 potential spots of interest
