Study of the vulnerability to natural coastal hazards

Region of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (Morocco)

In order to realize an overview of the coastal natural risks to which is exposed the region of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra in Morocco and imagine further protective solutions, Globocean has been requested by MDC Ingénierie to assess the vulnerability of the coastal strip to natural hazards of erosion, sand accumulation, and marine submersion.


The following tasks were successively achieved during realization :

  • Modeling of offshore sea states (software WaveWatchIII)

  • Wave propagation up to the shoreline (software SWAN)

  • Modelling of the coastal currents (software Telemac2D)

  • Sediment transport assessment by numerical modelling (softwares Telemac/Sysiphe)

  • Study of marine submersion by numerical modelling (software Telemac 2D)

  • GIS mapping of the vulnerability of the coastal strip to erosion and marine submersion hazards (software Qgis)
